SOLIHIYA

Solihiya weaving is a sunburst pattern that was popular in the countryside during the Spanish colonial era of the 19th century. Perhaps originating from the rich history of Southeast Asia, this special rattan weaving technique was a popular decoration used as the backrest and seats of chairs and chaise lounges. The pattern of Solihiya is made by weaving a thin band of rattan by hand to make a starburst pattern. Normally, a wooden frame is used. This type of weaving has been woven by local weavers since the 19th century and is mainly used for traditional Filipino furniture.

Day 1

At first I thought it would be very easy to work with, but it wasn't. I've been struggling because I couldn't make a circle and it is hard to use the gun tacker. I don't know the correct pattern of Solihiya. It took me three more times and four days to get there but I keep making it and trying it. In the first day of doing this solihiya, I don't know what to do, and I don't know where to start.

Day 2

On the second day it's still hard for me to do this and this is my second time of making solihiya but I still can’t get what’s wrong with what I’m doing.

Day 3

While I was continuing what I was doing, I was accidentally stabbed by a staple wire. But focus on my work you can see the wrong pattern I made that's why It's hard for me to make a circle.

Day 4

On the last day when I was making solihiya I found out what was wrong, so I was happy when I found out the right pattern. It's just like a stairs or ladder, it started at the bottom and it ends up on the top.

I'm so happy because I finished making this solihiya.
